Friday Comic Strip Dump!

Some recent objets d'art that haven't previously made it to the blog.

Old crow-quill sketch that I didn't even remember doing!  I like the dashy-scratchy line.

Inspired by the recent finale of 'How I Met Your Mother,' which I was vaguely aware of and thought was still kind of a new show.

Is there anything that can't be made funny but putting a butt in it?  I work slow, made a point of doing this quick.

I have more ideas, and need to draw more cartoons.

World's Lamest Super-Heroes

Years in the making - literally.  What's more important, getting it done or making it as good as possible.  For me, both, apparently.

I learned a lot doing this, including first use of background layers and gradients.  Dedicated to all those old heroes with dumb superpowers, who I loved so much (Legion of Superheroes, cough, cough).

And of course to my cousin Susan, the original inspiration for Capt Coaster...

Existential Comics

Another old one cleaned up and recolored.  This was definitely in the queue, but I moved it up when I saw the outstanding "The Germans Play Monopoly" comic by @ExistentialComics.

I had fun working on this, but it's easy to spend too much time tinkering at the computer, rather than drawing.

Like most people who want to do comics, I idolized Schulz as a kid.  But I also think I sometimes over-identified with Charlie Brown, and that's what 'Blockhead' is about.

Concentration

Another old picture.  An ink exercise that turned into a color exercise.

I was completely absorbed in this, and so called it Concentration.  By the end I was having strong emotional reactions to these colors; the story of the picture ended up being the gradual defeat of the green!  I'd like to try it with different color palettes.

Hilariously Funny Comics

Another old one.  Newly re-colored, which I am still learning how to do!

Oedipus Rocks!

Starting to re-color some old art.  I have learned to do a few (very) basic things with layers that will let me freshen these up.

This page came out of a discussion about Freud with a psychologist friend.  I never quite understood why Oedipus would just take his fate lying down.  But I guess maybe that's why they call it fate...

Dog Comics

Dumb dog jokes.  That is, the jokes are dumb, not the dogs.

Like "Marvel's Ginkiest" below, this was a short-lived attempt to scan and work with things directly out of my sketch book. Sort of kind of worked...
